This is the second part of my blog updating on my renovation project. In part one I talked about the process for getting to the building stage (not quite there yet).

So in part two, while I wait for third party wall agreements and Thames Water approval, I decided to start pulling together some initial ideas for the interior of my house and share these with you.

Ground Floor - I decided that I wanted a modern industrial vibe throughout my house, utilising wooden floors, exposed brick, steel and glass partitions all which made comfortable and cosy by balancing this look with linens, wooden shutters, quartz worktops, brushed brass and vintage brass fittings.

LivingRoom

Not all decisions have been made yet, for example I'm yet to decide whether to use a black varnished wood floor or a lighter herringbone oak - the final decision will depending on the amount of light running through the house throughout the day. The wall between the hallway and the living room will be replaced with a steel and glass partition letting as much light into the room as possible. The rest of the walls being painted in a combination of dark hues such as rich deep greys and warmer lighter shades. The sofas are made from a soft cream linen with bronze leather and black cow hide cushions. The coffee table is a an African carved wood round table purchase in Sydney Australia ten years ago and lighting is provided via a large iron pendant light, round accent lighting and a vintage brass floor lamp. Colour is added to the room via a painting over the fireplace bought from one of my favourite artists Julianne Lord (see the render below).

Television Room:

Next to the living room is the room most people use as their dining room. I decided that given this room was dark and didn't let much light in, I would continue the steel and glass partition featured in the living room to get as much light into the room as possible. Again, given overall this room would still remain dark, I intend to use this space as a TV room and entertaining space. The room will continue to feature a dark wall, cabinetary to the side of the fireplace and a TV over it. I will purchase a warm deep ochre or deep orange linen sofa and footstool to add some warmth and comfort to the overall look and feel of the room. Lighting, and a large rug that matches the one in the living room will complete the look (see the render below).

Kitchen/Dining Area

This is the space I am still working on. The room is going to be both a kitchen and dining area with glass and steel doors at the back leading into the garden. The side extension will have glass sky lights to let as much light into the space as possible. I do have a wish list of items I'm looking to include in this space which are; a pantry to keep kitchen electrical goods in; a quooker tap - for instant hot water; a plate warmer - no excuses these are just a total luxury but great for baking; lots of cupboards for storage and a dining area that can be opened to the back garden in the summer (see initial ideas below).

In my next update I'll share the designs I've pulled together for the first floor of the house. I'll also share fixtures and fittings that I intend to put into the house as I find the ones that most inspire me. If you are undertaking a similar project, please let me know as I'd love to hear about your journey.
